Books: The Tenth Circle
Sorry about the big flash… I was trying to be all arty taking a photo of my Kindle but it’s bloody hard!
Anyway, this is the second in a series I’ve started doing where I just discuss an interesting book I’ve read recently. Click here to see my thoughts on To Kill a Mockingbird.
This book is called The Tenth Circle: A Novel by Jodi Picoult, who is my favourite author at the moment. I can just pick up one of her books and start reading, knowing I’ll enjoy it without knowing anything about it.
The basic plot line to this one is about a 14 year old girl who is raped by her ex-boyfriend at a house party, however no one believes her and thinks she is just making it up to get revenge on him for breaking up with her. She is driven to self-harming and evens attempts suicide.
In Picoult’s books there are always more than one protagonist so each chapter is from a different point of view, the girl, her mum, her dad, the detective, even the mother’s lover at one point too! This way you get a lot of different perspectives, but it also keeps you thinking, trying to work out the truth for yourself.
Then of course there is the twist… I won’t give it away as it came as a huge shock to me! Especially as Picoult’s twists always come in right at the end - if you have seen/read My Sister’s Keeper by her then you will understand! - whereas this one was a lot earlier, more in the middle. There is another one at the end too but I had kind of seen it coming, and it was connected to the first twist; the first one was definitely the biggest surprise!
One thing I love about Picoult’s novels are that she often includes a minority community into them somehow, and I just love reading about their lifestyles and how they differ to our own. The ones that come to mind are the Amish, Native Americans, and in this one Eskimos (don’t worry I have checked, that is completely politically correct!). She brings it into this book as the girl’s father was brought up in a Yupik (an Eskimo tribe from Alaska) community and his childhood is often referred back to throughout the book. How accurate these descriptions are I do not know, but I’m sure she does her research!
Overall, this wasn’t my favourite Picoult novel (I love the ones with lawyers for some reason!) but it wasn’t my least favourite either. If you liked My Sister’s Keeper you will probably like this too, although I will warn you now, it is very creepy at the start with sexual references, especially when you remember they are only 14, ahhh!!
Please excuse my writing style, I feel it’s still a bit higglety pigglety but I do do maths at uni, we don’t write, pffft!!!! Hopefully it will improve with time, thanks for reading :)

So here is the mini Avon haul/review I mentioned in a recent post!
I bought SuperSHOCK eyeliner gel in Blackberry and Golden Fawn and pot eyeliner in Flashy Brown.
I will start with the eyeliner pencils, these are just fantastic, so creamy and very pigmented. Blackberry is a deep, warm brown with purple shimmer and small glitter pieces in it and Golden Fawn is a light goldeny grey colour again with shimmer and small glitters, I can’t actually tell if the glitter is gold or silver! Although they go on very smooth and creamily, they set quite quickly and do not budge! After taking that picture of the swatch on my hand I rubbed my finger over the swatches very vigorously to see what would happen and they pretty much stayed the same except for some of the glitter moved, but not any of the colour.
The pot eyeliner is quite different considering they are both under the SuperSHOCK name. It is much less pigmented and does not dry nearly as fast as the pencils do, making blending a lot easier. It is also quite sticky so I think it would be better as an eye base rather than an eye liner, as it would be a good adhesive for powders. The photo is not very good, I’m still trying to get to grips with this new camera! I had to use flash which washed it out quite a lot so it is not as pale as that, it is more of a coppery brown. However the swatch is a couple of rubs of the product on my hand whereas the pencils were just ran over once, so it is obvious to see the difference in the pigments of these two products. I have not tried it as an eyeliner yet so it will be interesting to see how well it lasts, I can imagine it will transfer onto the eyelid quite easily.
Please note: Avon lied about not testing on animals, they do in fact carry out toxicity tests.
I am just going to make these my last products I purchase from Avon. I am so disappointed in them!

Company: Nad’s
Products: Natural Body Hair Removal Gel, Body Wax Strips and Facial Wax Strips
Verdict: 4/5Before I even get started on this review I really want to make sure you get the setting right in your head- Picture this: Me and my mom, two ladies who have never waxed before, thought it would be a really good idea to wax our legs before bed. So we get all prepared, set out our ‘gear’, and got all comfortable. Well my goodness I never knew something could be so hilarious and painful at the same time.
First, we tried out the regular Body Wax Strips, which are super convenient and great if you’re looking for a quick and mess-free way to get rid of the hair on your body. First off, the smell of these wax strips (woo never thought I would say that) is actually really nice! It smells something similar to a sweet green apple- if that makes any sense to you at all. Before we applied the strip, we used Nad’s Desensitizing Kava Wipe (which is included in the box) and let it dry. Now comes the fun part! We took a strip out of our box and rubbed it between our palms to warm it up a little bit. Next, we slowly separated the strips into two, and applied the strip to the area we thought would hurt less on our legs, smoothing it out in the direction the hair grows. Now. Take an extremely deep breath and pull the strip off in a quick, straight-up motion.
Now let it all out. Me and my mom were literally just squealing by this part! I was also very fortunate to watch my sister do it after, while I giggled like a lunatic. Fortunately, our legs showed that it was all worth it. After several girlish screams and completing an entire leg, we switched to the other leg and decided to try out the hair removal gel. I assure you, the scene was surprisingly a teensy bit less painful! With this hair removal process, you apply the gel directly to your leg, and smooth a gel-less strip over your leg like before, and pull. I actually preferred these strips over the other ones. The gel seemed to have had a better grip on the hairs, therefore taking more out at a time, therefore smaller time-span of pain!
I have to admit though, the facial strips were mine, and my mom’s favorite. We cut the strips into smaller squares (mainly because we are waxing noobs, and we were afraid of waxing our eyebrows off!) applied it just like the others, and wa-la! These one’s worked like a charm, and were a lot less time consuming then plucking your eyebrows!
Overall, it was a scary, hilarious experience, but it was definitely worth it! I suggest checking out Nad’s Website, and taking a look at the huge variety of products they offer!
